Are researchers based in Switzerland eligible for ERC calls? ā There is no easy answer at the moment. š¦
The following Q+A are extracted from the Q+A on the respective website of the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), version of 22 June 2021.
Will researchers in Switzerland be eligible for the AdG-2021? | This is not clear at the moment. |
| In case of a third-country-mode, what would happen to the ERC projects from researchers based in CH that have already been submitted to the StG-2021 and CoG-2021? | If projects are positively evaluated by the ERC but not funded due to the absence of an association agreement, funding of the concerned researchers is planned by SERI. |
| Would researchers based in CH still be able to participate in the Synergy grant calls in a third country mode? | Yes! However, it should be taken into account that only one Principal Investigator per Synergy Grant group at a time can be hosted or engaged by an institution outside of the EU or Associated Countries. |
| If Switzerland was treated as a third country in Horizon Europe, would SERI establish measures which provide equal eligibility conditions as the ERC, e.g. with regard to research age and years of experience since completion of the PhD? | SERI would evaluate suitable alternative measures. |
Please note that SERI expects to receive information from the European Commission soon (probably in calendar week 26) and will inform immediately thereupon.
